“I give up!” “I quite!” “Why can’t I stick with any exercise program?”
Do any of these words sound familiar? Have you ever started an exercise program that you followed many years ago and wondered why it no longer worked? Have you ever used a photo of yourself from another lifetime hoping to be motivated, only to discover you were not? Do you ever feel like why bother, you can’t stick with anything?
Why Can’t I Do It?
Trying to be motivated by past success or even failures does not always work. Here is why:
- Your current lifestyle may be different that it was at one time. How have things changed for you; a spouse, children, new job or added responsibilities? It is easy to quit when you no longer have the time to follow a plan that once worked for you.
- Looking the way you did at one time may be too unrealistic. You may be setting yourself up for failure attempting to achieve a certain weight. Then when it does not happen, it is easy to quit.
- Dwelling on how you have failed over and over in the past only gets you stuck into thinking you will fail again. Today is a new day with an opportunity to discover a plan that can actually work for you.
Yes, you can learn from the past, but dwelling on it, whether good or bad, can keep you from focusing on what you can do today.
God’s word tell us in Isaiah 43:18-17
Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.
See I am doing a new thing
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it
I am making a way in the desert
And streams in the wasteland
Throw out your old way of thinking and see a new thing. What you did in the past may have worked or you may have failed miserably. It does not matter. Make a plan today that has everything to do with where you are at this moment in life. If you are unsure of how to make it work and need an outside perspective, I would love to help you.
